It’s finally here! These are a few things I’ve been loving this week.

Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask

Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I recently had an allergic reaction all over my face. It was not fun and thank God it’s almost completely gone, but I had to go back to basics and super gentle products. The Jet Lag Mask was the one thing I kept reaching for.

Laneige Sleeping Lip Mask

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask

This product is worth the hype. It’s a splurge for what it is but your lips are so soft when you wake up and it smells soooo good. It’s currently a 100 point perk at Sephora, so if you have some points, TRY IT OUT!

Chi Keratin Flex Hairspray

CHI Keratin Flex Hairspray

I picked up this hairspray from Marshall’s the other day and I really like it. It retails for about $17 (I think) but I got it for $10 at Marshall’s so I would definitely check there first. My hair does not hold a curl, but I also like movement. Needless to say, finding a hairspray that’s affordable can be a task and a half. If you have the same issues, I would def give this a try.

Abercrombie Button Down

Abercrombie Button Down

I love the button down trend and I have a crap ton of them but never ever reach for them in my closet. This one is different. Why? Because the fabric is sooooo freaking soft. It’s soooo comfortable and not stiff like some button downs can be. I’m not going to lie, I bought this in the green stripe and the multicolor and I’m pretty sure I’m going to go back and grab the other two colors it comes in.

Forever 21 Geo Drop Earrings

Forever21 Geo Drop Earrings

I love a statement earring. Talk about a cute way to spice up a simple outfit. I get a lot of my statement earrings from Forever21 because they are really affordable and have a ton of options.

Brooklyn Nine Nine

Brooklyn Nine Nine

This has become I think my second favorite show after The Office. It’s sooooo funny. Idk why it took me so long to find this BTW, it’s currently on TV so you can catch up.

The Mindy Project

The Mindy Project

Not going to lie, I hated her character on The Office and I debated on if I wanted to watch this show. She kind of acts the same but it’s tolerable lol The show overall is really funny but the first 3 seasons are my favorite.

Urban Outfitters Playlist

I was in Urban last week and I was like, “Wow, this is a bomb playlist.” So I thought to myself, “I wonder if they are on Spotify?” You’re Welcome lol.

Like I’ve mentioned in a previous post, my smile is very important to me and I always try to take care of it so it stays perfect. I think that probably explains why I have 600 laughing pictures on my Instagram 😂(I’m totally exaggerating, it’s more like 200 jk). So when Smile Brilliant reached out to me to collab again, it was a no-brainer :). Let me tell you a little back story. Even though my smile is super important to me, I HATE the dentist. I know what you’re thinking, “Makeda, hate is a pretty strong word.” But no, I need you to understand the severity of the situation lol (I’m super dramatic). Even though I hate the dentist, I LOVE getting my teeth cleaned and the feeling after. I’ve always wondered if switching to an electric toothbrush would give me a similar feeling.

Now I’ve used an electric toothbrushes in the past, but nothing like this particular brush. It was more of the $10-$15 ones that I would see in the store when I was a kid.  To be honest, I don’t even know if they make electric toothbrushes for that price anymore. Regardless, I knew I needed something substantial if I was going to make the change. At the beginning of this year, I started researching electric toothbrushes but I couldn’t decide on one. I was like hmmmmm, I could buy a pack of four toothbrushes at the dollar store or buy a toothbrush that’s going to be like $70+ for a good one. And while a pack of four toothbrushes for $1 is very cost efficient lol it wasn’t doing a very good job of giving me that deep clean I really needed. And I’m not going to lie, it’s an investment, but if there’s one thing that I know, it’s that the dentist is expensive and the more things you can do at home to prevent further complications the better!

There are a lot of great features that come with the cariPRO Ultrasonic electric toothbrush. My favorites are the five settings you can choose from: clean, white, massage, gum care and sensitive. While I’ve tried out all of them, the ones I love the most are the clean, white and gum care settings. The first time I used the toothbrush, it was such an experience that I was like, “I guess I’ve been brushing my teeth the wrong way for the last 20+ years lol.” I couldn’t believe how clean my teeth felt. Some other things I liked about this brush are:

  1. It alerts you (vibrates) when you should move to another quadrant of your mouth (30 seconds for each)
  2. It’s on a timer that turns off when you should be finished brushing your teeth (2 minutes total)
  3. You’re left with the, “I just went to the dentist” clean feeling

I promise you guys that after using this toothbrush, I don’t think I can go back to my four pack of toothbrushes lol. It is soooo worth it. It’s something that you have to use everyday but can make such a big difference. I feel like I’m actually getting all of the plaque and taking care of my gums the right way instead of just winging it. After the first day of using it, I went into work the next morning and completely raved about it! Because I love it so much, I’ve teamed up with Smile Brilliant to host another giveaway! One of my lucky followers will have their very own cariPRO Ultrasonic electric toothbrush system ($119 in value). The system comes with two brush heads, the toothbrush and a charging dock. I usually keep mine on the charging dock but the toothbrush has a very long battery life. To enter, all you have to do is click this LINK. I’ll be updating my Instagram for when the giveaway will be closed so make sure you’re following me! And if you really want to test it out and you still think it’s a little pricey, you can use my code: makedafarrelltb20 for 20% off your purchase of the system. Which makes it a little bit better 🙂

This post was sponsored by Smile Brilliant but all opinions are my own.

Having a new home to decorate and make my own is so exciting. I’m constantly moving things around and trying to set up everything exactly how I want it. It’ll never be “finished” because I know I’ll constantly be changing things especially as my style evolves. Even though I love how my apartment is right now, there are still some things I’ve been eyeing and dying to get my hands on lol #confessionsofashopaholic. See below for links to everything in the first issue of currently craving!

Are you allowing yourself to be happy? This is a question I started asking myself and quickly realized that I was not allowing myself to be happy at all. Have you ever been in a season or period of your life, where things have not been going particularly well? Hello, adulting? lol I think I was just so used to not being happy that even when things were going well in my life, I didn’t even recognize that it was something that I should be happy about. I only saw the negative. Things were starting to turn around and I was still moping around like the world was falling. I’ve mentioned in a blog post before that I started going to counseling. I really do want to write a whole blog post on it because it has helped me tremendously. Anyway, I’ve been doing it for a couple of months now and this was one of the things we uncovered during one of our sessions. Now, I’m the type of person that once you make me aware of something, I can kind of stop it before I start spiraling (another reason why counseling really works for me). But if you’re not like that I wanted to share some of the things that have helped me, shift my mindset and allow myself to be happy and to celebrate the good things going on in life.

Finding the positive in every day – So this is an exercise that I started doing every morning. As I’m driving to work and talking with my mom on the phone, I talk to her about at least one positive thing that happened the day before. It sounds super juvenile and you’re probably like what is this bologna that you’re saying, but I PROMISE it’s worth giving this a shot. What this does is, even if the day before was a horrible day, you’re still finding one good thing about it. I’ve been doing this for a couple of weeks now and it has drastically helped. A tip is to try and focus it on the area that is bringing you the most negativity. For example, if it’s work, try to find something positive that happened at work.

Take a moment to celebrate – I am the first to admit that I am the worst at this. I think it’s partially because we are a part of a generation that is constantly wanting to do better and be better. While this is a great thing, it’s also about celebrating the little moments and not being too hard on yourself. It’s about finding that balance. SOOO if you present a project at work and you kill it, or if you decided to take the stairs instead of the elevator, you CELEBRATE. Pat yourself on the back, take a moment to acknowledge your victory no matter how big or small it is. Okay, so sometimes I don’t celebrate the right way like I’ll spend unnecessary money on clothes or celebrate working out with a donut lol but at least I’m celebrating.

Even though you may not like the season you’re in, put attention on the things you enjoy. Discover the things that bring you joy and do them! I’m beginning to realize that life is really too short to be focused on the negative. We have to much to do in this world to be held back.

The wait is finally over! I posted an insta story (shameless plug: follow me on insta!) a couple of weeks ago and got an overwhelming amount of comments asking what makeup products I use. I gave a little sneak peek on my Instagram but then decided that this would make a good blog post! I tried to go in order of how I put it on, but I’m thinking of doing a couple of other blog posts that go into more depth of some of the products I love 🙂

I’ve been obsessed with Too Faced’s Hangover RX Primer. I probably would’ve never tried this if I didn’t receive a trial size for free with one of my Ulta purchases. The dewiness would’ve turned me off since I typically like to be matte (I have oily skin). Buttttttt I love the nourishing aspects of this primer! It leaves my skin feeling sooooo soft. I also really love the Too Faced Primed & Peachy primer. It has a cooling effect so I feel super refreshed. I’ve been switching back and forth between the two.

One of my fave foundations is the Lancome Teinte Idole foundation. It’s one that matches me oh sooooo perfectly. I find it hard to find a foundation that matches my yellow undertones. A lot of them end up being very red on me. Other reasons I love it so much are that it keeps me matte and lasts a long time. It takes a good foundation to withstand the Florida heat and humidity lol. If I know I have a short day or I’m doing something more casual, I’ll opt for my Maybelline Super Stay foundation. It doesn’t last as long, but it’s a good drugstore foundation. The shade I wear for the Lancome is 470 Suede and for the Maybelline, it’s Warm Coconut.

Not going to lie, I haven’t tried many concealers. Concealers are still very unknown to me, but one that I always get no matter what is the L.A. Girl Pro Concealer. One, you can’t beat the price. Two, it comes in so many different shades and correcting colors that you will find your perfect shade. I have a couple of shades in it, so I use Fawn & Warm Honey the most.

The powder that I am currently using is the It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Powder in Translucent. I love this powder because it makes me super matte and the price point isn’t too horrible. Another fave of mine is the Laura Mercier setting powder, but you know a girl’s gotta save money sometimes lol.

Now for brows, it honestly just depends on how much time I have. If I’m rushing, Anastasia Brow Definer it is. Love the spooly on the end of it and I feel like this is a lot easier to use than the brow wiz. If I have a little more time, I’ll use the Benefit Ka-Brow pomade. It glides on, but I like that it stays put. Regardless of which one I use, I always set my brows with Gimme Brow by Benefit. I use the shade chocolate for the brow definer, shade 4 for Ka-Brow and shade 4 for Gimme Brow.

Mascara is one of my favorite parts of my makeup routine. Even if I’m not wearing makeup, I still like to put on mascara. There are so many different ones that I love but the two that I’ve been grabbing the most are Tarte’s Lights Camera Lashes and Too Faced’s Better Than Sex. Lights Camera Lashes is an OG but Better Than Sex is newer to my mascara collection. I usually always layer my mascaras, but both can be used on their own. They lengthen my lashes to the extreme.

My goal in life is to always look like a glazed donut. If I don’t look like one, why even bother? LOLOL! My FAVE highlighter, like never going back to anything else, is the Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit in Sun Dipped specifically the bronzed shade. If I could just buy the bronzed shade, that would be great because I don’t use the other 3 nearly as much. If I can just buy the bronzed shade, someone please let me know! I promise to love you forever and ever 🙂 This is pretty much the only highlighter I use. The only other thing I may grab is my Mac eyeshadows in Amber Lights and Expensive Pink. Yes, I use eyeshadow as a highlighter sometimes.

Setting Spray

Usually, I use any of the Mario Badescu facial sprays. My faves are the green and the purple. But currently, I’ve been using the Urban Decay All Nighter spray. Girlllllllllll, this spray is literally amazing. It makes my makeup last all day long! I love it. Kind of pricey compared to the Mario Badescu sprays but a lot more long-lasting.

Lip Gloss

My lip gloss always has to be poppin. And the only lip gloss I use is Fenty. I’m not saying that I won’t try another lip gloss, but I’m just saying it’s worth the $18. Trust me, you’ll justify spending the money after you try it.

That’s pretty much it when it comes to my everyday makeup routine. If I’m feeling super fancy, I’ll add on eyeliner and blush. My go-to eyeliner has been the Stila Stay All Day Eyeliner. And my fave blush (like no other blush will ever compare) is the Mac powder blush in Raizin. It’s all about keeping it simple lol

Ya’ll know I’m all about looking effortless without putting in too much effort lol So I like to do little things that make my life a little easier since I’m way more lazy then I’d like to admit. Cue the Lazy Girl’s Guide. I wanted to start a new series on my blog that goes out to all of my fellow lazy girls out there. It may sound like a bad thing, but I know I’m not the only one that wants to be effortlessly stylish in life. Whether it be from the clothes you wear, having a fabulous girls night or decorating your place until you make it a home, don’t worry I got you! I’ve figured out a lot of ways of living a great life without it being a hassle. I can’t wait to see where this series goes and I hope you all enjoy it! Now on to the first thing: At Home Teeth Whitening.

My smile has always been the thing that has captured people attention. I have a HUGE smile lol so it’s something that I try to take care of since it’s most noticeable. I wasn’t always this confident in my smile though. Growing up, I hated my gapped teeth and I was also really tiny so I felt like my teeth were too big for my face. To top it all off, they were stained from all of the sodas and juices I drank. Helloooo awkward middle school Makeda LOL. Thank God we all grow up, am I right? Fast forward a few years and I embraced the gap and grew into my teeth but the stains were still there.

In college, I started using drugstore whitening strips and while those did a decent job, I knew I needed something that whitened a little deeper. The older I got, the more things I added into my daily routine that stained my teeth: wine, coffee, sodas, cranberry juice, all things I can’t live without lol. The whitening strips just weren’t cutting it anymore.

When Smile Brilliant reached out to me it was perfect timing. I had always wanted to try out an at-home teeth whitening kit but was scared because I have super sensitive teeth. It was nice to know that there was a kit that catered to that and also nice to know that it wouldn’t cost me an arm and a leg for future uses.

After I received my kit, I made my impressions and sent them off to the lab. About a week later my custom whitening tray arrived and I started the process. You get two types of syringes in the kit: One contains the teeth whitening gel and the other has a desensitizing gel. The first step is to brush your teeth with just water and dry them. Then you’ll open up the teeth whitening gel and put a thin line in each tray. The trays can be left in anywhere from 45 minutes to 3 hours. After that, you brush your teeth (with toothpaste this time) and move on to the desensitizing gel. You’ll repeat the same step with the desensitizing gel but you only leave it on for 15-20 minutes.

I started off at 45 minutes and then worked my way up to an hour once I whitened a couple of times. The first two weeks I started out doing every other day and the third week I did 5 days in a row. I just popped them in and went about my business. I always whitened at night when I was watching my shows. Let’s just say that some of my friends have some pretty embarrassing pictures of me with a face mask on and whitening trays (self-care to the max) while watching The Bachelorette lol

Overall, I am very happy with my results. It’s something I could do while I was doing other things. No going to the dentist and having to take time off of work. No wondering how I’m going to pay $500 for this teeth whitening session. Just a super simple task that provided me with the results I wanted to see.

I’m getting compliments on how white my teeth are and I have Smile Brilliant to thank for that! So thankful, that I have an amazing giveaway for you guys and a coupon code for your next Smile Brilliant purchase 🙂 The giveaway rules are super simple! Just follow this link right HERE and enter to win a $149 Smile Brilliant credit so you can get your very own T3 whitening system. How easy is that? Professional Teeth Whitening

Searching for a new apartment has been one of THE most stressful things. When your salary doesn’t match up with the current apartment prices, you start to lack hope lol. BUTTTTTTT, I’m trying to keep the hope alive so I’ve been looking for some new apartment inspiration on Pinterest as well as buying a couple of new decor pieces that have been on sale throughout the summer (can someone say shopping addiction). A lot of people always ask me how do I start to decorate a space and the answer is pretty simple: you need to be inspired. Now I literally look for inspiration everywhere. It could be a store/restaurant design, Instagram, on TV, other people’s homes, etc. but what’s great about Pinterest is that you can keep all of the ideas in one place. I am NOTORIOUS for creating a board for every and anything that I do, so of course, I created a board on not only the look of my new apartment but also some of the things that I would want for the apartment.

It’s going to be sad leaving my first “big girl” apartment :(. I’ve had a lot of memories in here and it’s definitely a place that I will always remember. But I’m believing that God has something even better for me (and cheaper) somewhere else in Orlando. The process of moving may take a little longer than I want it to, but luckily I have a place to stay in case I don’t find a place in time. I will definitely take you guys on the journey of the new apartment and all of the cute things I’m finding for it but in the meantime, you can check out my Pinterest board for some inspiration :).

If you missed my two apartment tours on the blog, you can view them here and here.

Allow me to reintroduce myself… With a new site design and loss of a lot of my previous blog posts (still sad about that) comes some introductions. I have a lot of new followers and I realized that there’s a couple of things that you may not know about me:

  1. I’m Trinidadian – I was born in Trinidad and moved to America when I was 3 years old. My entire family is from there and it really is a HUGE part of who I am. The food, the music, the values, I love my country and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
  2. I started blogging as a school project for my English class – Blogging was something I always wanted to do but was kind of scared to start. My English professor gave us a semester-long research project and I decided to do mine on if blogging can help improve my writing (which it did btw!) so it forced me to start one. I don’t even think I can find those posts because they were on Blogspot, but that’s okay I prob wouldn’t want to see them anyway lol.
  3. I work at an advertising agency – As much as I would love blogging to be my full-time job, I actually work at an advertising agency. I have a degree is in Advertising/Public Relations with a minor in Hospitality Management so I’m lucky that I was able to get a job in the field that I studied. My main role is on the media team working on the planning and buying of media placements both offline and online. The company I work for now, I actually interned for my last semester of college and they hired me! So internships do work!
  4. Lauren Conrad is my queen – A lot of people don’t know this about me but watching The Hills is the whole reason I got into the industry that I’m in right now. I saw Lauren working in PR for People’s Revolution and working at Teen Vogue and knew that was what I wanted to do. Hence the major in Advertising/Public Relations, but then I realized how much I actually didn’t like PR and fell in love with advertising lol.
  5. I tried spaghetti for the first time a couple of months ago Super weird, I know lol! I don’t know why I’ve never tried it before, maybe because I’m not a fan of cheesy things or Italian food. My verdict: it’s alright. I’ll stick with my personal fave: Asian food.
  6. I spend WAYYYY too much time watching TV – So much time that I kind of want to do a blog post on some of my fave shows and binge-worthy series. But TV is my release, it’s a way for me to relax and not have to think about anything. From reality to documentaries to scripted, I watch it ALL.
  7. I’m waiting until marriage – Well this is a sensitive topic and I honestly wasn’t sure if I wanted to put it in here, but I do think it’s important because it’s part of who I am. I’m waiting until marriage for primarily religious reasons but personally, I felt like it was the best thing for me. It makes dating a little challenging but I think it’ll be worth it in the end.
  8. I have one sister but tons of cousins (who are basically sisters) – Even though I only have one sister (Destiny), my mom is one of nine children. So yeah… I have tons of cousins who I love so much and they are all doing pretty cool things. Destiny is 5 years younger than me and has started her own clothing line. She constantly inspires me every day. I can’t sit here and name all of my cousins because that would take forever but Shenelle is a bomb youtuber, T’shelle (my roommate) is killing it in her grad school program and Darcel has started her own blog. I come from a pretty talented family if I do say so myself.
  9. I’m addicted to Target – Yeah I know every girl says this, but I’m like really addicted. I can go there, not even buy anything and have the time of my life 😂. Just being in Target makes me happy, but chances are I do leave with things that I didn’t even know I needed. Target knows what I need before I do, it’s one of the most important relationships in my life lol.
  10. I milly rock on every block – The milly rock is my go to dance when I’m out. Why? I have no idea, but it’s not a party if I don’t milly rock lol.

Coming up with 10 things about myself was a lot harder than I thought it would be, but I hope you know a little bit more about me now. Some of the things that I mentioned might end up being their own blog posts so I can elaborate on them a little more. If there’s anything you may want to know more about, feel free to leave a comment down below, message me, or dm me on Instagram!

It’s been so hot in Florida lately. It was literally 90+ degrees the other day! With all of this hot weather comes… BEACH DAYS. I am so excited yall! I haven’t been to the beach since last summer so I am so ecstatic for my little beach getaway this weekend with a couple of my friends. As I’m packing and running around getting stuff for the weekend, I thought I would share a couple of my beach essentials.

The perfect swimsuit
There are so many different options when it comes to swimsuits. Do you guys remember when the only option was basically a triangle top and either a string or normal bikini bottom? Now there are so many choices, which doesn’t make it any easier for an indecisive person like me LOL. We have high waisted bottoms, high cut bottoms, bandeau tops, one-pieces, one shoulder tops, etc. My personal favorites have been one-pieces and high cut (very Kim K).

I’ve been listening to  The Skinny Confidential’s podcast and she talks about the importance of sunscreen all of the time! Now, I’m not the best about remembering to apply it on a regular day (except my face, I always put sunscreen on my face), but when I know I’m going to be outside for long periods of time I make sure to coat myself with it. I love the spray on ones because it’s not that much of a hassle and it dries pretty quickly!

There is nothing more relaxing than reading a book or magazine on the beach. I’m not currently reading any good books but I’m definitely packing a couple of my magazines! Some of my faves are Vogue, Elle, and Condé Nast Traveler. A little inspiration and relaxation.

Let’s face it, we all know that if we’re going to the beach we are taking tons of pictures LOL. So why not accessorize? Sunglasses, hats, beach bags, I love it all! My must have is definitely sunglasses. There are so many different styles that I go a little crazy when it comes to them LOL. I shared my collection on insta-story the other day and I may have a slight addiction. Ooops!

My Adidas Adilette’s are usually my go-to’s when I go to the beach (and I’ll still bring them on the trip), but I got these Plaka sandals that I am slightly obsessed with! I can’t wait to wear them. They have that beachy vibe to them, but they look more like a sandal. I like that I can bring them to the beach or wear them with a cute dress. A versatile shoe is always key, especially if you’re staying at the beach for awhile.

And those are a couple of my essentials! I got some new things for the trip that I can’t wait to share. Follow along with me on Instagram to keep up with everything going on this weekend 🙂

You ever feel like you just keep experiencing the same things over and over again? It’s the same cycle; like lather, rinse and repeat? Well, that is me—NO, that was me. This year I became really tired of struggling with the same things. I picked at little things that I didn’t like about myself. I isolated myself from the people who love me. I tried to handle everything on my own and then acted like everything was all peachy when everything was actually falling apart. I was extremely hard on myself. I was extremely pessimistic. I’m a perfectionist, and I hated making mistakes so much that I’d stop myself from making any moves. Honestly, this list could go on forever, but the point of me listing these things is to show you that I was becoming my own worst enemy. I was the one getting in the way of everything that I wanted to accomplish. I was the one stopping myself from being great, and I knew something needed to change. I knew I needed to change.

Soooo I started to shift my thinking. I started being kind to myself. I started doing things for me. I focused on the things that I loved and what I wanted out of life. I started to care about Makeda. I had to sit down and ask myself some hard questions. As a 20-something, it can be hard to figure out your life. Am I the only one that feels my steps are more of a stumble than a graceful leap? LOL. We don’t have to have everything figured out, but when things aren’t going how we want them to, we have to figure out the problem and the solution. Life is too short to be unhappy with our careers, relationships, selves, etc. So 2018 is deemed the Year of Makeda, and I wanted to share a few of the things that have helped me get out of my funk.

Bring it back to the core.

Over the course of 2017, I felt like I lost God. I know that you can’t technically lose God, but it sure felt like I did. It was not a good feeling. My relationship with God is my core; for that part of me to feel like it was missing was a big factor in how I was feeling. I didn’t have anything to anchor to; no faith and no hope. When I was able to really focus on what the issue was, I learned that despite those feelings, it’s about pushing through. You got to keep praying, keep reading your Bible and keep spending time with God. Once I started to do that, things started to fall into place. I was focusing on the right things.

What’s at your core? What’s the thing that grounds and centers you? Maybe it’s meditation? Or maybe it’s something else? Whatever it is, focus on that. When our core beliefs and values are messed up, all other areas of our lives can be affected.

Go to counseling.

I want to write a whole blog post about this because I can’t tell you how much I love counseling. It is one of the best decisions I’ve made so far in my life. When people think of counseling, they think of someone going through it. Maybe an addict, someone with severe depression, etc. But you don’t need to be a severe case in order to go to counseling. Everyone should do it. It’s an eye-opening experience where you can get to the root of the problem. A counselor helps you come to conclusions on your own and prepares you with tools to help you overcome the problem. If you’re worried about the cost of counseling, there are options! Your health insurance sometimes covers counseling, or at least pays for some of it. Another option is turning to a college or a church. Many of them offer free or low-cost limited sessions for the community. Figure it out someway, somehow. I promise you won’t regret it.

Okay, I promise I’m not just saying this, but this is another one of my best decisions, LOL, and something else that I encourage everyone to do. When you’re an over-thinker, it can be hard to figure out your thoughts. Journaling helps me make sense of everything. I get all of my thoughts out, and then there’s instant clarity and revelation on the situation. You can be as unfiltered as you need to be because there is no one there to judge you. Ever since I was a little girl, the only way I could properly express myself was through writing, so journaling is super therapeutic for me. I also practice gratitude journaling to help shift my mind to the good things going on in my life.

Find things that you enjoy.

My mom gave me great advice during my little rough patch and said that every day, I should make sure I’m doing at least one thing that I enjoy for myself. We get caught up in the day-to-day, and things start to become routine. When I realized I wasn’t taking any time for myself, I started to try to figure out what I enjoyed doing. I’m actually still figuring these things out, LOL. Whether it is going on a walk, spending time with friends, finding a hobby, developing a passion, watching your favorite show—FIND IT and DO IT! Surprisingly, I realized that I actually like nature (only to an extent, LOL). I went on a walk around a local lake with a friend, and it was one of the best things because it really relaxed me, cleared my head and kept me active all at the same time.

So that’s it! Those are some of the things that I’ve been doing, and it’s helped so much! I’m still a work in progress, but I know I’m not the only one going through these things. So if you’re also going through a season like this, I hope these things help you as much as they have helped me! 2018 is the Year of the Makeda, so make it the Year of You, too!’
